Internships
Overview
Internships represent the other opportunity for students in the STEM Academy to get authentic experience in a field of their interest. These internships typically take place during the summer through the district's Work-Based Learning program, although the program does allow for students to do the internship during the summer. The majority of internships so far have consisted of working with professors and graduate students from Colorado State University, but students have also interned at local businesses such as Woodward, HP, Tolmar and Stranaska. Placement in internships occurs anytime after the student has completed the STEM Survey course. The director of the STEM Academy will reach out to all STEM Academy students in the early spring.
Requirements
Students who decide to do an internship must do the following:
-
Enroll in the Work Based Learning (WBL) program and complete all assignments for the course
-
Complete at least 150 hours of work (hours are flexible)
-
Document their experience through the completion of a weekly internship log
-
Prepare a final presentation to be given to the next cohort of students in the STEM Academy
